Ohio Sets Record for New Businesses Created in 2021 – Business Journal Daily

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohioans set a new annual record of businesses created with 197,010, up 15% over the record set in 2020.

The Ohio Secretary of State’s office reported 12,516 new businesses created in December, pushing total startups in 2021 past the previous year’s record of 171,073.

“Ohio entrepreneurs are proving that this is a good time to work hard and follow your passion,” said Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose. “Though some industries continue to struggle, Ohio is embracing new business – especially small and local businesses, all while the semiconductor chip manufacturer Intel announced it will invest $20 billion in Ohio, creating what may become the largest chip manufacturing operation on the planet.”

Ohioans can establish a new business at OhioBusinessCentral.gov. New business filings are classified as forms filed with the Ohio Secretary of State that declare the formation of a business entity, including for-profit, non-profit and professional corporations, limited liability companies, partnerships, limited partnerships and limited liability partnerships. Filing as a business in Ohio does not guarantee the company will begin operations, be profitable or create jobs.
